Apple's course to virtual reality

A rendition of this paper was initially distributed at Tech.pinions, a site devoted to educated suppositions, knowledge and point of view on the tech business.

Image result for apple watch

Given how centered four of the other real purchaser innovation players are right now on virtual reality and increased reality, numerous individuals are achieving the conclusion that Apple must act quick or be deserted.

It's absolutely genuine that virtual the truth is having its minute, and seems to have achieved a tipping purpose of sorts between its long history of over-promising and under-conveying and something that is really convincing. Notwithstanding, that doesn't mean Apple needs to present VR equipment in the exact not so distant future with a specific end goal to keep up. Indeed, taking after Apple's for quite some time set up examples of item presentations recommend an alternate methodology.

The Apple Watch as an example

In a past section, I discussed Apple's moderate, inconspicuous form to new items, and the route in which possible item presentations frequently expand on prior moves which go about as empowering influences, despite the fact that the significance of those prior moves isn't generally straightforward. I utilized the Apple Watch as a case, and refered to nine prior developments Apple had made as key empowering agents of the watch, when its time arrived. There's unquestionably an example here that Apple could take after with a possible VR equipment item. It implies presenting programming and, to a lesser degree, equipment highlights today that would empower such a frill later on.

On account of the Apple Watch, one of the key empowering advancements was Bluetooth LE and the Bluetooth warning augmentations Apple presented in 2012. This empowered outsider equipment makers to make wearable gadgets that could combine with an iPhone and get warnings from in a way that was much more effective than was conceivable already. This thusly empowered a business opportunity for smartwatches, for example, the Pebble, which took advantage of this usefulness quite a while before Apple brought its own particular equipment into the business sector. All the while, Apple permitted outsider equipment sellers to do a considerable measure of the experimentation, to drive mindfulness and enthusiasm for the class, and to resolve crimps in the model.

When it was prepared with its own particular equipment, Apple could rapidly rule the smartwatch class and expand on things that had and hadn't functioned admirably with before outsider equipment. What's more, essentially, the Apple Watch didn't require everybody who needed one to go out and purchase another iPhone, in light of the fact that the partner usefulness had been incorporated with a few eras of iPhones by that point.

Apple's initial phase in VR won't not be equipment

On the off chance that we apply this example to Apple's conceivable VR methodology, we may well see an option that is other than a VR headset as the initial step. Truth be told, it's more probable we would see a progression of unobtrusive advances in different territories throughout the following couple of years before Apple at last dispatches a VR frill or gadget. What may some of those strides be? Here are a few potential outcomes:

New sensors: iPhones as of now have an entirely strong arrangement of sensors, including accelerometers, whirligigs et cetera, which can be utilized by outsider producers for VR encounters. Be that as it may, these aren't upgraded for VR particularly. Tweaking and increasing these sensors is a conspicuous thing for Apple to do as an empowering influence of both its own and outsider VR gadgets. It may or may not expressly say this when they're presented — such sensors could conceivably enhance iPhone gaming encounters, as well, so they could be presented under that cover as opposed to as unequivocal VR empowering influences.

Shrewd Connector: Apple brought the Smart Connector into the iPad Pro line a year ago, however there's no motivation behind why comparative innovation shouldn't come to future iPhones, as well (early gossipy tidbits have been conflicting on this point as respects this current fall's new iPhones). The Smart Connector passes both data and force between the iPad (or iPhone) and an embellishment, and would make an awesome empowering agent for VR headsets, which could either draw power from the iPhone along these lines or furnish it with force. Once more, it's conceivable that Apple would have an alternate reported reason for the Smart Connector, however it could absolutely be repurposed for both Apple and outsider VR headsets (generally as the iPad Pro Smart Connector is now open to outsiders for extra capacities).

Showcases and processors: Apple keeps on upgrading its presentations and its restrictive An arrangement contributes new forms of the iPhone. The new iPad Pro presents new shading innovation which will probably advance into future iPhones also, for instance. In any case, VR has particular prerequisites as far as handling power and shows which should be empowered in iPhones that are to be utilized for upgraded VR encounters as a part of future. Once more, these improvements may well be made in the typical course of the iPhone redesign cycle, yet would be basic empowering influences for better VR encounters in future, as well.

APIs: Although some outsider VR extras for the iPhone as of now exist, really advanced encounters are prone to require more particular APIs outlined particularly for VR gadgets. This would be harder for Apple to empower without giving the diversion away, and maybe the APIs come later than some of these different headways therefore. Be that as it may, I wouldn't be astounded on the off chance that we saw VR-particular APIs reported at one year from now's WWDC.

Apple will be no place in VR — until all of a sudden it is

The purpose of this is to say it would seem that Apple is no place in VR, and that is actually valid all things considered. It has no declared equipment, no product that is particularly intended to bolster VR, and the best marker we have that Apple is even mindful of the innovation is some ambiguous remarks from Tim Cook that the classification is fascinating.

But then, what we could find in a couple of weeks at the current year's WWDC, and in a couple of months with the new iPhone dispatch, is a progression of inconspicuous markers that Apple is surely considering VR important and laying the basis for a future item in this space. Some of those markers might be genuinely straightforward, while others will be harder to perceive early. Yet, in the event that you're looking, I wager you'll begin to see them once again the following year. This movement will gradually slope until all of a sudden Apple uncovers an item — and after that the procedure will get to be evident looking back.

New Apple TV will compete with Amazon Echo

The current Apple TV and the Siri Remote.

Apple is working on its answer to Amazon’s Echo, the voice-activated assistant packaged inside a speaker, but it may come in the form of a refreshed Apple TV, rather than a new hardware product, VentureBeat has learned.
The company will build on its enhancements to the Apple TV announced last year, which brought the Siri virtual assistant to the set-top box. A new version of the Apple TV will solve problems with the existing box and remote control, a source familiar with the matter claims.
“They want Apple TV to be just the hub of everything,” the source told VentureBeat.
Earlier this week The Information reported on plans to build “an Amazon Echo-like device with a speaker and microphone.” Our source, however, says the device will be the Apple TV.
Apple has considered several options — turning the existing Apple TV into a more comprehensive assistant, making the Apple TV’s Siri Remote the key device, or even building a standalone speaker just like Echo. Ultimately, the third option was dropped, given how much money Apple has spent on the development of Apple TV.
The problem with using the remote as the hub is that it doesn’t have a battery — it needs to be charged occasionally with a Lightning cable. The box itself has no microphone, but if it did, fan noise from a nearby device, like a television, could make speech recognition challenging. The Apple TV will eventually get its own microphone and speaker, the source said.
The current box can handle dictation, but processing queries and serving up results requires additional computing infrastructure, and Apple is working on that, the source said.
The Apple TV represents more than just a set-top box that can replace a cable box. Apple wants to own the living room and the connected home in general, the source said. A more powerful Apple TV would be a stronger foundation for new Apple products.

All Glass Phone is confirmed by Apple Leaks

Last month the world’s most accurate Apple AAPL +1.77% tipster revealed the company is working on a radical ‘all glass’ new iPhone. The news was met with cynicism and excitement in equal measure, and now a major Apple supplier has confirmed it…

Speaking at its annual shareholder meeting Allen Horng, chairman and chief executive of long time iPhone chassis maker Catcher Technology , said Apple will make its 2017 iPhone using a glass casing.

Breaking down the radical shift, Horng said using a glass chassis would prove expensive and that Catcher requires “advanced processing technology” to pull it off. He also explained that the chassis would need to be reinforced by a metal frame.

The move is expected to go far beyond Apple’s previous glass backed iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S and rival Samsung’s recent Galaxy S and Note lines by using a single piece of glass for the whole exterior. Pull that off and Apple would certainly have a smartphone that looked like no other.

But it isn’t all good news.

Horng said that “As far as I know, only one [iPhone] model will adopt glass casing next year” and, given the range’s pricing, that would suggest the iPhone 8 Plus (Apple is expected to skip the iPhone 7S moniker for the iPhone’s 10th anniversary) or even the hotly rumoured iPhone Pro.

Apple Confirms iOS 9.3.2 Has A Serious Problem

iOS 9.3.2 may have a great secret feature, but it has also been causing serious problems and now Apple AAPL +1.08% has taken decisive action…

Today the company announced it has pulled the update for all owners of the iPad Pro 9.7. Launched just two months ago, the iPad Pro 9.7 is Apple’s newest device but shortly after the release of iOS 9.3.2 scores of users took to online forums and social media to complain that the update had bricked their devices.

I contacted Apple at the time and received the following response:

“We’re looking into a small number of reports that some iPad units are receiving an error when updating the software. Those unable to restore their device through iTunes should contact Apple support.”

Apple understandably played down the issue, but it has ultimately decided strong measures had to be taken. Apple last pulled an iOS update back in 2014 when iOS 8.0.1 caused iPhones to start dropping calls.

Wider Problems?

Interestingly I have received reports from several Forbes readers of other issues with iOS 9.3.2.

These include claims the update has also bricked iPhones and caused rapid battery drain, but for now iOS 9.3.2 remains available to all other devices. Whether that changes and whether Apple now rushes out ‘iOS 9.3.3’ as an emergency fix or reissues a modified version of iOS 9.3.2 remains to be seen.

Of course the obvious question to ask at this point is: Why is the iPad Pro 12.9 not affected? And the simple answer is: because the iPad Pro 12.9 actually has significant hardware differences to the iPad Pro 9.7.

So what should you do now?

As my iOS 9.3.2 upgrade guide warned at the time, I strongly recommend you don’t install it. After all the update is (ironically enough) a dedicated bug fix and actually hid its one interesting new feature. Meanwhile if you have already installed iOS 9.3.2 and found you have no problems, then congratulations – you rolled the dice and got lucky this time.

Needless to say, this all comes at a highly inconvenient moment for Apple. Next month the company will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) where it is expected to unveil iOS 10.

So, no pressure guys…

iPhone sales surge 56% in India as Apple eats into Samsung's high-end share

In spite of set up players like Samsung and Intex commanding the biggest shares of the Indian market at present, Apple keeps on developing, with deals up 56 percent year over year, as indicated by the most recent information from Canalys. As second quickest developing seller in the main ten cell phone suppliers in the nation, Apple has now begun to test Samsung's strength in the premium business sector.

As far as aggregate piece of the overall industry for gadgets valued over $300 U.S., Apple has developed from 11 percent in the main quarter of 2015 to 29 percent toward the begin of 2016. That prompted huge misfortunes for opponent Samsung, which saw its offer tumble from 66 percent to 41 percent over the same range.

"Apple is beating the general business sector in India, and still has incredible development potential," said Canalys Mobility expert Wilmer Ang.

Apple saw its first-ever year-over-year decrease in iPhone deals last quarter, hurt specifically by China, where absolute deals were off 26 percent. Be that as it may, Apple's Cook trusts the alleged "fate and unhappiness" among financial specialists was a tremendous overcompensation.

Rather, Cook has turned his sights toward developing interest in India. This week, in an appearance on Jim Cramer's "Distraught Money," Apple's CEO noticed that 50 percent of the populace is matured 25 or more youthful, and those clients have demonstrated enthusiasm for purchasing the best items accessible.

What's more, in Apple's most recent quarterly profit telephone call, Cook brought up how deals in India were up essentially and that Apple would put "expanding accentuation" in these business sectors where there is huge development.

"With just 42 percent cell phone infiltration of the worldwide handset advertise today, iPhone is as yet pulling in a huge number of first-time cell phone purchasers every quarter, particularly from developing markets. For instance, in India our iPhone deals were up 56 percent from a year back," Cook said.

The rollout of quicker LTE systems in 2016 are likewise anticipated that would offer more noteworthy development open doors for the iPhone.

Reasonableness of a premium brand is still a driving component of offers in a cost-delicate cell phone market. Apple's aggregate business sector entrance is still under 2 percent in India. In any case, on account of various value cuts, Apple's iPhone 5s still turned into the most prominent Apple gadget in India, even with a littler screen and obsolete equipment.

Apple's endeavor to facilitate develop this business sector has confronted a few difficulties with government bans on importing utilized iPhones available to be purchased. The organization's solicitations have been turned down twice, showing both a hesitance with respect to the Indian government to import outside cell phones in lieu of neighborhood assembling, and resistance from business sector heavyweights like Intex, Micromax and Samsung.

Canalys, a worldwide knowledge and information examination organization for the IT business, expects that merchants will start banding together with budgetary foundations to make cell phones more moderate and energize development in the Indian business sector.

Notwithstanding these difficulties, Cook communicated trust in Apple's capacity to develop its business sector in India, the third biggest cell phone market on the planet. While the cell phones being used so far have been principally low end because of financial aspects and system abilities up till now, Cook said he sees India like "China was perhaps seven to ten years prior" and that "there's a truly extraordinary open door there."
